The Old Brick Playhouse Touring Company
specializes in providing entertaining and educational programs for
children and youth. We're in our 15th
season of touring original musical comedies to a cumulative audience
of over 1.5 million students in elementary schools in the mid-Atlantic
region and overseas.
The Old Brick’s madcap style integrates singing,
dancing, juggling, acrobatics, and magic tricks with topical messages
and guidance for children. We have worked with
Young Audiences of Virginia for five years touring our original comedy, A
Garden Fable, The Groovy Moving Show, advocating social and
cultural tolerance. Our productions have received honors
at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and have been showcased in The
National Theatre in Washington, DC.

The West Virginia Division of Culture and History (WVDCH) announces
the Touring Program, a grant-free pilot program
available through the West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA)
that subsidizes select artist visits to schools in West Virginia.
Here's how it works:
- Schools contact the approved artist directly to book a program.
- A contract is developed by the artist.
- The artist presents the program.
- The school pays the artist their portion of the artist fee
(as per the agreement).
- Schools in distressed counties pay 25% of the artist fees
(WVDCH/WVCA funds 75% of the artist’s fees)
- Schools in non-distressed counties pay 50% (WVDCH/WVCA funds
50% of the artist’s fees)
- On the date of the performance, the school fills out an evaluation
form by hand and returns it to the artist.
- That’s it! No grant writing necessary!
The goal of the Touring Program is to encourage deeper arts experiences
by facilitating the ease of taking art into West Virginia’s communities
with an emphasis on serving distressed counties. This program was
created based on feedback received from teachers, administrators,
and artists regarding our current Mini Grant program. The participating
artists were selected because of their active participation in the
Mini Grant program as well as their commitment for bringing quality
arts programming to young audiences. |
