Max and Nellie

Video

The Old Brick Playhouse in collaboration with the WV Initiative to Improve End-of-Life Care and The Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation produced a video for children who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Advocated by numerous palliative care organizations, Max and Nellie's Journey with Grief is designed to answer frequent questions children may have when someone close to them dies while offering suggestions as to how one can grow through grief. The video has received national recognition and has been a successful tool used in hospitals, churches, and schools to help children who are dealing with issues of bereavement.

An original video for children written by Judy Brussell and Linda Zimmer, directed by Tom Nicholson. A theatrical labyrinth of song, dance and fantastical characters, this video addresses issues of bereavement and helps children cope with loss while celebrating life.

Max and Nellie's Journey with Grief is the story of two children who are on a journey of grief that begins with the death of their Grandpa Gilbert. This video explores the confusing and frightening issues of loss and bereavement in an entertaining, creative and every-day format. Live actors, puppets, masks and music are used to show the children using play as a means to growth and understanding as they face the miracles and mysteries of this challenging but natural part of life.

Max and Nellie's Journey with Grief prompts discussions between children and adults concerning death, dying and loss. The video is 25-minutes in length and comes complete with a supplemental study guide and activity booklet. This video was created through the generous support of the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation.
