Randolph County named 100 Best communities for youth

The Old Brick Play House Announces a New Show

The Old Brick Playhouse and the Superintendent of Randolph County Schools, Dr. James Phares have joined forces to tackle the epidemic of bullying in schools. Beginning in late October, The Old Brick Playhouse will travel to nine elementary schools in Randolph County with a program targeted to educate students about bullying by providing both prevention and coping tactics.

The WV Department of Culture and History and the WV Commission on the Arts are providing financial support for a portion of touring artists’ fees. Dr. Phares, concerned about the issue of bullying in schools, has agreed to address this issue by contributing matching funds for each school in the county.

The program will feature Old Brick Playhouse’s new show, Percy Penguin Solves It All is based on real life experiences. This emotionally charged play takes place in the Southern Ocean where turmoil reigns due to the fact that someone feels excluded. Percy Penguin Solves It All involves audience interaction seeking guidance and advice from participating students. To find out more information or to schedule this show for your school, call the Old Brick office or e-mail missy@theoldbrick.org.

Brick-o-vision

In response to the communal separation anxiety that takes place when one of our Apprentice students moves away or graduates, John Prentice devised a system by which these students can attend virtually a portion of the weekly apprentice meeting. Brick-o-vision, created and piloted by a group of Apprentices utilizes technology to allow our group of eighty five students and seven staff to interact with Apprentice Alums as they attend our weekly meeting through Skype. Now established, this resource will be available to other homesick apprentice alumni who would just like to drop in for a taste of nostalgia and good clean Old Brick fun. And in the case that we ever need a magic mirror – these virtual students may also have an actual onstage during and actual production.
